I love Shirley Scott. And I really loved putting this playlist together. Normally, I spend a lot of time hunting for enough music to fill out a whole playlist. Shirley's output was so extensive I had to make several trims and am still left with a much longer playlist than I generally put together. Not to mention, how many albums she released as a bandleader. For female jazz artists of her time, it's really unheard of. I hope you enjoy her music as much as I do!
This mix includes an interview with Terrell Stafford, and interviews of Shirley with Marian McPartland on Piano Jazz as well as for Cheney University's Oral History Project, where Scott was a professor.
