Dardanelle was a multi-instrumentalist who first made her mark playing with Lionel Hampton. She played piano and vibes and also was an excellent singer. You may notice a large gap in dates. She took a break from performing and recording to raise her family. Although, like many women in jazz, her break also involved work. During that time, she was in Chicago, serving as the staff pianist for WGN while also working on children’s television shows. I hope you enjoy hearing music from this oft-overlooked musician!
