I'll be honest, Clora's mixtape gave me some trouble. She has been recorded very little in her lifetime. Generally, I take that as a challenge and become more determined to find obscure and rare tracks. But as much as I dug, I still couldn't find any more recordings of her work. On the other hand, she was interviewed extensively later in life. She made it her mission to share the contributions of artists, and particularly female musicians, of Central Avenue and the West Coast jazz scene. I didn't need to narrow the number of recordings, but I did need to pick and choose from her oral history tales. She visited colleges and festivals and spoke regularly.
Since there were fewer recordings, I'll be laying out the information a little differently. The majority of the music is from her only studio recording, Gal with a Horn. I'll include more details on personnel where I can. I hope you enjoy the mix!
