Caterina Valente is a little outside of the normal realm for these mixtapes. She isn't exactly a jazz musician. However, when I stumbled across her work, I fell in love with her bossa nova recordings. Then when I dug into her story, I found recordings with Chet Baker and performances with Ella Fitzgerald and Bing Crosby. She had a very unconventional career. I would categorize much of this playlist as pop or delightful kitch, but her talent is undeniable. I hope you agree that her story is worth including in this mix tape series.
